Prepare for Impact: Developing Collective Workload Codes to Quantify Advanced Practice Radiation Therapy Clinical Activities

Key motivations for the development of the Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist (CSRT) role in Ontario were to improve the quality of cancer care and maximize system efficiency. Quantifying the value or impact of each role is integral to sustainability especially in times of fiscal restraint. Our institution currently has 4 distinct CSRT roles in: brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), non-melanoma skin cancer and brain radiosurgery. CONCLUSION: The preferred method for reconstruction after orbital exenteration in our university affiliated center is lateral frontal galeal-cutaneous flap based on superficial temporal artery. The flap harvesting is simple, safe and obtains enough tissue for covering defects even after extended exenteration. Complication rate is low. We suggest the simultaneous use of this flap with pedicle temporalis muscle flap only for reconstruction of scull base after anterior cranial fossa resection. Nucleotide excision repair (NER) is the most versatile DNA repair pathway to remove DNA damage caused by UV radiation and many chemical carcinogens in the environment. NER is essential for suppressing tumorigenesis in the skin, lungs and brain. Loss of function of NER factors in humans can lead to the Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP) syndrome, characterized by 2,000-10,000 fold increased risk of carcinogenesis at a very young age, especially for non-melanoma skin cancer and melanoma. Although the core factors in the NER pathway are identified, regulation of the NER pathway remains poorly understood.
