Exploring the Contributions that an Expert Practice Radiation Therapist Can Make to Coordinating a Clinical Trials Program at a Tertiary Cancer Centre

Clinical trials in radiation oncology continue to play an important role in changing practice through accumulation of evidence in hypofractionation, image-guidance, motion management, stereotactic body radiotherapy, and dosimetry. Other protocols involve standard radiotherapy regimes, but coordinated with new chemotherapies, targeted agents and immunotherapies that may impact treatment scheduling and increase the toxicities that patients may experience. The role that a radiation therapist can play in taking a leadership role in clinical trials coordination to increase protocol compliance and operational success will be discussed.
