The changes of intraoperative body temperature in adult liver transplantation: A retrospective study

This study investigated the effect of intraoperative body temperature fluctuations on the prognosis of liver recipients.METHODSThe body temperatures of liver recipients recorded from the induction of anesthesia (T0) until the end of surgery (T14) were retrieved. The patients were divided into two groups: the hypothermia group ( 5 min) and the normothermia group (≥35 °C or

Authors: Zhou X, Lv X, Zhang L, Yan J, Hu R, Sun Y, Xi S, Jiang H Abstract Ketamine is a widely used general anesthetic and has been reported to demonstrate neurotoxicity and neuroprotection. Investigation into the regulatory mechanism of ketamine on influencing neural development is of importance for a better and safer way of relieving pain. Reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting were used to detect the critical neural associated gene expression, and flow cytometry to detect the neural differentiation effect. Hence, in the present study the underlying mechanism of ketam...

In this study, we focused on the change in DDAH1 in response to moderate exercise and the underlying mechanism of exercise-induced cardiac angiogenesis. Eight-week-old male DDAH1 global knockout (KO) mice and DDAH1flox/flox mice (wild-type) were randomly divided into sedentary groups (control) and swimming groups (exercise). After eight weeks of swimming at five days per week, all the mice were anesthetized and sacrificed. Histological examination and Western blot analysis were performed. There were low levels of myocardial capillaries in DDAH1 KO mice under control and exercise conditions. Notably, exercise elevated DDAH1...

Authors: Hormoznejad R, Mohammad Shahi M, Rahim F, Helli B, Alavinejad P, Sharhani A Abstract A double-blind placebo-controlled randomised clinical trial was conducted on 41 patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Participants were randomly allocated to receive either a cranberry supplement or a placebo for 12 weeks. Both groups were assigned to follow a weight loss diet. At the end of the study, alanine aminotransferase and insulin decreased significantly in both groups (p

Governor Cuomo of New York signed an executive order using armed national guard members to seize personal protective respirator masks and ventilators from rural hospitals, and 'reallocate' these to metro New York City hospitals. To me, it seems he is dooming physicians, nurses, and staff, outside the NYC metro, to infection. If you listen to his full update, he is imploring President Trump to extend this confiscation of ventilators and PPE to other states. Certainly I expect physicians in... This article reviews the incidence, presentation, risk factors, and treatment for local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST). We have specifically focused on the changing patterns in practice, presentation, and recent updates on treatment.Recent FindingsRegional anesthesia is now an essential component of perioperative care with enhanced recovery programs, multimodal analgesia regimen, and the opioid crisis. Local anesthetics are widely used, contributing to varied presentations and increased incidence of LAST outside the operating room. Use of intravenous lipids for treatment of LAST has increased, but there is still defic...

AbstractThese are the results of phase II study of bortezomib-melphalan-prednisolone (VMP) induction therapy followed by lenalidomide-dexamethasone (Rd) consolidation and lenalidomide maintenance in transplant-ineligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM). The primary end point was progression-free survival (PFS). Secondary end points included overall survival (OS), overall response rates (ORRs), and safety. Eighty-three eligible patients were enrolled between October 2012 and August 2014. The median PFS was 28.0  months (95% CI 19.6–36.7) and the median OS was 55.3 months (95% CI 51.6&nd...
