Varying sun protection of young children by migrant and Australian-born mothers.
Conclusions/implications: Strategies should aim to increase general awareness about the need for sun protection of young children, and recent migrants should be alerted to the harms of excessive sun exposure. PMID: 25307255 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSIONS IFN-alpha1b has an immunostimulatory activity similar to IFN-alpha2b and possesses milder adverse effects on immune checkpoints and stronger inhibitory effects on melanoma cell growth than IFN-alpha2b. Therefore, IFN-alpha1b is a promising drug for the treatment of melanoma. PMID: 32210221 [PubMed - in process]
CONCLUSION: An inverse correlation between FasL expression and TILs level, that might indicate FasL-induced TILs apoptosis in tumor tissue, was observed. The strong inverse correlation between FasL and TILs presence showed some insight about the interactions between cancer cells and its surroundings inside of the cervical cancer tissue. This might also be further developed to tailor a prognostic marker that can predict the outcome of therapy in patients, not only in cervical cancer, but generally in all cancer. CONCLUSION: Induction chemotherapy with Cisplatin and Docetaxel is a promising regimen with good response and favorable toxicity profile and can be considered as a potentially effective outpatient regimen for locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck. CONCLUSION: Overall, the results clearly establish the potential of ICLH extract to inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in the SCC-9 cells. Further analysis of the ICLH fraction could result in development of effective anticancer therapeutics. The natural abundance of I. cylindrica with its wide geographic distribution could make it a preferred natural resource for obtaining novel, cost-effective, anticancer therapeutics with minimal systemic side effects. This study aimed to investigate the association between Arg399Gln SNP and the risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Ninety nine patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck and 89 healthy adult controls were enrolled in this study. The Arg399Gln in XRCC1 allele was genotyped using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. RESULTS: In the single-locus analyses, Arg399Gln SNP showed a significant association with head and neck cancer risk (p value = 0.016 and odd ratio of 1.8). On the genotype level, we applied three analysis models,...
Authors: La Rosa GRM, Gattuso G, Pedullà E, Rapisarda E, Nicolosi D, Salmeri M Abstract Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the leading cause of mortality for oral cancer. Numerous risk factors mainly related to unhealthy habits and responsible for chronic inflammation and infections have been recognized as predisposing factors for oral carcinogenesis. Recently, even microbiota alterations have been associated with the development of human cancers. In particular, some specific bacterial strains have been recognized and strongly associated with oral cancer development (Capnocytophaga gingivalis, Fusobacter...
SKIN cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, confirms the NHS. Typically caused by sun damage, what are the five signs of the deadly disease you need to know as we head towards summer?
Conclusions: Despite low accrual, majority of subjects treated with metformin had metabolic responses by PERCIST criteria on PET imaging. Contrary to the effect of metformin on most physiologic tissues, most tumors had increased metabolic activity in response to metformin.
ConclusionFDG quantification detects nodal relapse in LAHNSCC patients. When using EARL standardized PET acquisitions and reconstruction, absolute SUV metrics (SUV70 threshold 2.2) prove robust, yet ratios (SUV50/SUVliver, threshold 0.96) may be more useful in routine clinical care. In this setting, the diagnostic value of quantification is comparable to the Hopkins criteria.Trial registrationUS National Library for Medicine, NCT01179360. AbstractPurposePrimary tumor (PT) and metastatic lymph node (MLN) status have a great influence on diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Our main purpose was to investigate the imaging characteristics of PT or MLN by applying the18F-FDG PET dynamic modeling approach for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).MethodsDynamic18F-FDG PET scans were performed for 76 lung cancer patients, and 62 NSCLC cases were finally included in this study: 37 with newly diagnosed early and locally advanced lung cancer without distant metastases (group M0) and 25 metastatic lung cancer (group M1). Patlak graphic analysis (Ki calculation) based ...
