Reply: Prophylactic placement of permanent synthetic mesh at the time of ostomy closure prevents formation of incisional hernias

Thank you for your critique of our manuscript.1,2 First, Fig 1 shows the 3 techniques used for stoma site reinforcement. Figure 1, A and B, include patients with stoma site reinforcement only without reinforcement of the midline. These groups consist of 12 loop ileostomies that were closed through the stoma site with unilateral reinforcement only, without a midline laparotomy, and 11 patients approached via a midline laparotomy in whom the mesh was not placed across the midline. Only 1 of these patients actually required a transversus abdominis release (TAR) (Fig 1, B).
