Can we avoid the toxicity of chemotherapy in elderly cancer patients?

Despite the fact that approximately 50% of patients with cancer are ≥70 years old (Siegel et al., 2016), cancer treatment in the elderly continues to represent a therapeutic challenge. Elderly patients form a very heterogeneous group in relation to their health condition, degree of dependence, comorbidities, performance status, physical reserve and geriatric situa tion, for which therapeutic decisions must be adopted in an individualized manner.
