As global rates of obesity and its associated metabolic dysfunction have risen [1], there have been several surgical approaches designed to decrease obesity in light of the limitations with diet and lifestyle therapies. While bariatric surgery demonstrates very consistent rates of obesity decrease and control, the perceived degree of operative trauma associated with these operations and the significant anesthetic and operative risk associated with super-obese (SO) patients has led to alternative approaches to manage dietary caloric intake.
