Data Integration and Resource Center (DIRC) for Common Fund Acute to Chronic Pain Signatures Program (U54 Clinical Trial Optional)

Funding Opportunity RFA-RM-18-031 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The purpose of this FOA is to identify and support a Data Integration and Resource Center (DIRC) for the Common Fund Acute to Chronic Pain Signatures (A2CPS) Program. The overall programmatic goal of the DIRC is to integrate the efforts of all funded components of the A2CPS and serve as a community-wide nexus for protocols, data, assay and data standards, and other resources generated by the A2CPS Program.

Conclusions: The results revealed that activation of mGluR8 in PAG is not capable of improving the thermal hyperalgesia threshold. Based on the decreased expression of mGluR8 after SCI induced by clip compression injury and its significant increase after treatment of siRNA against mGluR8, this method might still hold promise as an effective treatment of neuropathic pain. It can be concluded that increased expression of mGluR8 is due to the fact that DCPG prevents the death of neurons that express these receptors. PMID: 32460469 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Approximately 50% of postmenopausal women experience vulvovaginal symptoms associated with genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). GSM is a chronic and progressive condition with a well-defined treatment algorithm. Analysis of the MsFLASH Vaginal Health Trial data produced two main conclusions, which were that prescribed vaginal 10 μg estradiol tablet and over-the-counter (OTC) vaginal moisturizer did not provide additional benefit over placebo vaginal tablet and placebo gel in reducing postmenopausal vulvovaginal symptoms; or increasing the proportions of women reporting sexual activity or improving pain scores wi...

According to this study, green spaces are restorative and boost attention, while viewing concrete worsens attention during tasks. Finding a forest therapy guide The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy trains and certifies forest therapy guides across the world. Guides help people forge a partnership with nature through a series of invitations that allow participants to become attentive to the forest, to deepen their relationship with nature, and allow the natural world to promote healing and well-being. Ultimately, guides support what the forests have to offer us, inviting participants into practices that deepen physi...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe purpose of this review is to discuss the current evidence for acupuncture in migraine and to provide insight into which patients may benefit most from acupuncture.Recent FindingsMultiple studies support acupuncture as a validated modality for the prevention of episodic migraine. While small studies on acupuncture for the prevention of chronic migraine are encouraging, evidence for its benefit is limited. Likewise, the existing studies on acupuncture for acute migraine treatment are insufficient.SummaryAcupuncture is commonly used to treat migraine and has gained popularity as a validated non-ph...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe purpose of this review is to summarize the role of avoidance behavior in headache-related disability and overview relevant clinical implications.Recent FindingsAvoidance occupies a central role in contemporary psychological perspectives on headache disorders and other chronic pain conditions. Several cognitive constructs of relevance to headache are influenced and maintained by avoidance behavior. A growing body of literature attests to the notion that avoidance of headache triggers, of stimuli that exacerbate headache, and of broader life domains can negatively affect headache progression, dis...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewInterstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic, debilitating condition of unknown etiology characterized by persistent pain perceived to be related to the urinary bladder and lower urinary tract symptoms. Evidence shows that immunological inflammatory responses underlie the pathophysiology of IC/BPS with Hunner lesions but not that of IC/BPS without Hunner lesions. Here, we review the current understanding of the immunological inflammatory nature of IC/BPS with Hunner lesions and the clinical outcomes of immunomodulatory therapies.Recent FindingsOpen trials show that steroids imp...

AbstractInjured somatosensory nervous system cause neuropathic pain which is quite difficult to treat using current approaches. It is therefore important to find new therapeutic options. We have analyzed cedrol effect on chronic constriction injury (CCI) induced neuropathic pain in rats. The mechanical and thermal hypersensitivity were evaluated using the von Frey filament, radiant heat and acetone drop methods. The changes in the levels of biomarkers of oxidative stress including malondialdehyde (MDA) and total thiol (SH), as well as inflammatory mediators including Tumour Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF- α) and Interleu...
