A cluster of cases of pneumocystis pneumonia identified by shotgun metagenomics approach
We read with interest the recent letter by Ling-Yun Guo et al. (1) that addressed the capability of metagenomics sequencing in diagnosing different sources of abscess cases and agreed with that metagenomics sequencing could assist clinical decision with minimized turn-around time and satisfying diagnostic performance to detect multiple organisms (2). Pneu mocystis pneumonia (PCP) is a serious and sometimes critical infections caused by Pneumocystis jirovecii, which usually occurs in immune-suppressed patients accompanied with mixed infections, and early rapid diagnosis is critical in the disease prognosis.
