Stress , sex and infertility

Stress does not cause infertility - it's the infertility which causes the stress. However, blaming patients by telling them that their infertility is because they are so stressed out is a great way of shifting the blame onto them , and this just makes a bad problem worse, because this guilt just adds to their stress levels. They feel even worse about themselves , and can't really do anything about it – after all, no one likes being stressed !However, one way in which stress does cause infertility is because of its effect on sexual frequency. Stress kills sexual desire , and in today's busy world , where both women and men are busy pursuing high-flying careers, they are sometimes just too busy to have sex ! Because they are travelling all the time, they aren ’t able to time baby making sex during the fertile period – something urgent always crops up at the last minute !And when they finally do manage to synchronise their schedules , the husband suffers from erectile dysfunction , because he finds it hard to perform under pressure; or the wife gets dyspareunia because of vaginismus. It is this infrequent sexual intercourse which results in infertility – which means the underlying reason is not medical, but social !The good news is that it ’s easy to treat, and the success rates are high !The simplest treatment option is self-insemination.
