LB1507 Pruritus in ordinary scabies: Its immunological responses and IL-31 from macrophages under overexpression of TSLP and periostin

Scabies is a common contagious skin disease caused by an infestation of skin by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Scabies has two subgroups: ordinary scabies and crusted scabies. Both of these subtypes feature severe pruritus, but precise mechanisms are not fully understood. Herein, we have evaluated the expression of IL-31, an itch-related cytokine mainly produced by activated Th2 T cells, and Th2-related proteins in histopathological sections of ordinary scabies lesions. In scabies lesions, we have detected a larger number of IL-31 (+) cells in the dermis and stronger IL-31 staining of epidermal keratinocytes compared with healthy control and tick bites lesions.
