Accurate measurement of arterial blood pressure is an essential component of patient care management. Patients undergoing surgical and interventional procedures often require direct measurement of blood pressure via an arterial catheter. The indications and necessity for placement of an arterial line are based on the type of operation or interventional procedure, patient condition, comorbidities, anticipated treatment regimen, and/or frequency of blood draws. Placement of an arterial line can contribute to pain and discomfort during insertion.
