CONCLUSIONS: At the time the HEPLA study was carried out, the data from this cross-section of patients in Latin America showed that the CHC population has variation in disease and viral characteristics, with a minority of patients receiving treatment and many patients having advanced disease. Increased awareness and access to treatment are necessary in Latin America in order to meet the goal of hepatitis C virus elimination by 2030. PMID: 31718995 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The objective was to test and assess the accuracy of a scoring method in probabilistic data linkage in order to enable automatic identification of true matches, dispensing with the manual inspection stage. Accuracy study using data from the Breast Cancer Information System (SISMAMA) base in Minas Gerais State, Brazil, from 2009 and 2010. After cleaning and standardization, a 16-step probabilistic linkage of the 2009 and 2010 databases was performed, where each step was inspected manually to obtain a gold standard. Samples were then selected, inspected, and assessed to calculate the method's accuracy in selecting true match...

This article aims to discuss the concept of stigma and its repercussions on persons living with HTLV. The discussion is based on a literature review on the theme and the authors' experience with care for persons affected by the infection and illness. The study found that both HTLV carrier status and HTLV-related illness can be stigmatizing for individuals, who feel inferior for being infected with a potentially serious and even fatal disease, although incompletely understood and loaded with derogatory stereotypes. This situation can have negative repercussions on access to health services, treatment adherence, and pursuit ...

Both analysis corrobora...

Razafimandimbison, Kent Kainulainen, Bruno Senterre, Charles Morel, Catarina RydinAbstractThe granitic islands of the Seychelles harbor about 268 native angiosperm species, with 28% being endemics there. The Seychelles biota contains a mix of ancient taxa with Gondwanan origins and young taxa that arrived there via dispersals. We investigate the phylogenetic position of an enigmatic, critically endangered, Seychellean endemic of the coffee family (Rubiaceae), Psathura/Psychotria sechellarum, and assess whet...
