Cavitary retinoblastoma is a rare tumor variant manifesting in form of ophthalmoscopically visible translucent cavities within the tumor. The pathogenesis of the cavitary variant is unknown. Histopathologically, the cavitary spaces represent photoreceptor differentiation in the areas adjacent to the cavitations, which might explain variable response to chemotherapy with lower risk of reactivation and good prognosis. There is, however, very little understanding about its origin, frequency, pathogenesis, and clinical significance.

ConclusionIn the absence of fundus changes, mfERG parameters showed decreased amplitudes with increase in axial length. For correct interpretation of ERG responses in clinical practice, we recommend consideration of axial length measurement when evaluating mfERG responses.

In this study, an object detection algorithm is used for cone cell identification in confocal adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope (AOSLO) images. An effectiveness evaluation of identification using the proposed method reveals precision, recall, and [math]-score of 95.8%, 96.5%, and 96.1%, respectively, considering manual identification as the ground truth. Various object detection and identification results from images with different cone photoreceptor cell distributions further demonstrate the performance of the proposed method. Overall, the proposed method can accurately identify cone photoreceptor cells on con...

ConclusionLymphomatous involvement of the ciliary body usually presents as an atypical anterior chamber reaction. Vitreous biopsy should be considered in these patients for diagnosis. Methotrexate intravitreal injection combine with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, might extend the survival time and preserve visual acuity for patients with ciliary body involvement by lymphoma.

We report a new scleral buckling technique using a 27-gauge endoilluminator and a wide-field viewing system to overcome the limitations of conventional indirect ophthalmoscope-methods and “chandelier-assisted” surgery. Patient concerns: A 26-year-old female patient visited the local clinic for floaters and lower visual field defects in her left eye that had occurred 5 days prior. Diagnoses: On fundus examination, upper retinal detachment without macular involvement and an atrophic hole was observed in her left eye. Interventions: Under general anesthesia and after perilimbal conjunctival ...

This study involved 3 patients who had been diagnosed with MacTel type 2 at a local eye clinic and who was subsequently referred to our department for a more detailed examination. Diagnoses: Three patients were diagnosed with MacTel type 2 using dilated ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein angiography, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) in both eyes. A FTMH was developed and visual acuity decreased during follow-up period in all of the patients. Interventions: Each patient underwent PPV in 1 eye using the inverted ILM-flap technique, gas tamponade, and prone positioning. Outcomes: The FTMH was successfully ...

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: To assess prevalence and associated factors of changes in the ophthalmoscopic optic disc size and shape.METHODS: The case-control study included all highly myopic eyes (myopic refractive error ≤-6.0 diopters) and a randomly selected group of non-highly myopic eyes, examined in the population-based Beijing Eye Study 2001 and 2011.RESULTS: The study included 89 highly myopic eyes (age:65.0±9.8 years) and 86 non-highly myopic eyes. Reduction in ophthalmoscopic disc size (prevalence, ...
