Alignment of a crystal with the coordinate system of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) is essential for obtaining controlled diffraction conditions or investigating anisotropic material properties. The computer program crystalAligner was developed to enable the weighted constrained alignment of one or two crystal directions in crystals of arbitrary orientation and structure with the coordinate system of a SEM. For a given set of crystal directions, alignment objectives and rotational constraints, the algorithm simulates the rotation of the crystal on any constrained SEM stage and minimizes the misalignment of the crysta...

Multi-wavelength (mw) Bragg coherent X-ray diffraction imaging (BCDI) is demonstrated on a single Au particle. The multi-wavelength Bragg diffraction patterns are inverted using conventional phase-retrieval algorithms where the dilation of the effective pixel size of a pixelated 2D detector caused by the variation of the X-ray beam energy is mitigated by interpolating the raw data. The reconstructed Bragg electron density and phase field are in excellent agreement with the results obtained from conventional rocking scans of the same particle. Voxel sizes of about 63   nm3 are obtained for reconstructions from both approa...

The molecular structures were of 1, 4–6 determined by the single crystal X-ray crystallography. The benzaldehyde derivatives containing free phenolic groups involved intra- and i...

CONCLUSION: UGH syndrome can be caused by any type of pseudophakic lens. An intraocular lens in the bag should not rule out the diagnosis. Despite the decreasing popularity of anterior chamber intraocular lens implantation, UGH syndrome remains a current condition and must be recognised in order to adapt therapeutic management. Authors: Desmettre T Abstract Nearly one-third of the planet's population is affected by Toxoplasma gondii infection. In ophthalmology, toxoplasmosis is even considered to be the most common cause of posterior uveitis of infectious origin. Humans are only an intermediate host and T. gondii needs to infect cats for its sexual reproduction. All the elements increasing the risk of predation by the definitive host are then favourable to the parasite. Numerous experimental animal model studies have shown that T. gondii infection is associated with predatory risk behaviours such as an attraction of infected mic...

The present study aims to develop an injectable hydrogel via borax complexation of oxidized alginate, followed by a self-crosslinking reaction with gelatin through a Schiff’s base reaction. Gelation kinetics and degree of crosslinking could be controlled by changing the concentration of components and the formation of Schiff's base formation was confir...

Leszczyński, Monika Borucka, Paweł KozikowskiAbstractThe novel flame retarded unsaturated polyester resins have been developed and prepared by introduction of high nitrogen content additives into the polymer matrix in order to verify their effectiveness in the formation of swollen carbonaceous char inhibiting the burning process of the polymer. The intumescent flame retardants (IFRs) based on mixture or metal complex were developed and characterized by particle size distr...

Research has shown that adolescents in military families have higher rates of suicidal behaviors compared to their nonmilitary peers. This is typically attributed to military-specific stressors, but exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) may also...
