Mechanical dilatation of the cervix during elective caeserean section before the onset of labour for reducing postoperative morbidity.

CONCLUSIONS: At this time, the evidence does not support or refute the use of mechanical dilatation of the cervix during elective caesarean section for reducing postoperative morbidity.Further large, well-designed studies are required to compare the effect of intraoperative mechanical dilatation of the cervix with no intraoperative mechanical cervical dilatation for reducing postoperative morbidity.
