Cost-effectiveness of a low-dose computed tomography screening programme for lung cancer in New Zealand
While lung cancer isn ’t the most common cancer in New Zealand, it is the most deadly cancer, accounting for almost 20% of all cancer deaths in New Zealand [1]. Lung cancer carries a high mortality because it is usually detected at a late stage, when the disease is advanced, spread to other parts of the body, with low survival. There is growing evidence that screening current and ex-smokers for lung cancer with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scans is effective at reducing lung cancer mortality.
