Seattle EMTs Demand Better Pay as City's Contract with AMR Ends

SEATTLE (KOMO)– When people need medical transport in Seattle, it’s usually American Medical Response (AMR) that does it. But with the company’s seven-year contract with the city coming to an end, workers are asking for better wages. “Because contrary to popular belief, we are not paid like our brothers and sisters in the fire service,” EMT John Moore said. AMR employees say their wages start at just over $15 an hour, which is slightly above Seattle’s minimum wage, but far lower than their counterparts in similar areas throughout the country, like the Bay Area.
