Brugada syndrome: Let's talk about sex

The phenotype of Brugada syndrome (BrS) continues to intrigue cardiologists with unsolved mysteries. Originally considered an autosomal dominant, single-gene disease, the mystery of an abundance of gene-elusive sporadic cases has opened up possibilities that the genetics of this condition is not so simple. An additional mystery is the seemingly male preponderance, despite the absence of any evidence supporting sex-linked inheritance. As such, most of our knowledge on BrS is derived from cohorts representing large populations of men and little is known of gender differences in relation to clinical presentation, risk, and outcome.
