Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma arising in hidradenitis suppurativa during adalimumab therapy: Case report

Tumor necrosis factor alpha inhibitors are increasingly used in many autoimmune or inflammatory disorders, yet it remains controversial if they increase the incidence of nonmelanoma skin cancers, such as squamous cell carcinoma. Certain review articles have attributed the increased incidence of nonmelanoma skin cancer in patients undergoing anti-TNF therapy to the underlying disease processes or to other confounding immunosuppressive medications. Squamous cell carcinoma arising in hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also known as Marjolin ulcer, is a rare entity and has been reported in more than 60 cases.
