TODAY'S KNOWLEDGE WORKER has an attention span of 3 minutes, and distractions account for 28% of an average American's workday.1 Electronic distraction at work is increasing, and the health care environment is not immune to this. Today's health care environment is equipped with electronic health records, smart pumps, and robotic instruments, and he alth care team members can interact in real time. Telemedicine is more prominent than ever, and patients can be monitored remotely. We likely do not even remember the work environment of a decade ago, when we relied more on snail mail, pagers, and telephones to relay communication.
