Plasma lipidomic profile signature of rheumatoid arthritis versus Lyme arthritis patients.

CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides insights into the alteration of the plasma phospholipid profile of LA patients, resulting from Borrelia burgdorferi infection, that may lead to improved LA diagnosis and differentiation of this disease from RA. Furthermore, LPE (14:0) was found to have a high potential to be a possible biomarker of LA. PMID: 30059653 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Curtis JR, Brahe CH, Østergaard M, Hetland ML, Hambardzumyan K, Saevarsdottir S, Wang X, Flake DD, Sasso EH, Huizinga TW Abstract OBJECTIVE: To compare the multi-biomarker disease activity (MBDA) score with the DAS28-CRP and CRP for predicting risk of radiographic progression in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. METHODS: Published studies of the MBDA score and radiographic progression with ≥100 patients per cohort were evaluated. Rates of radiographic progression over 1 year were determined across the low/moderate/high categories for MBDA score (low/moderate/high: 44), DAS28-CRP (low/modera...

Interestingly, we recently found that SIN could significantly ameliorate bone destruction induced by breast cancer cells in mice. Micro-CT examination showed that bone loss of the trabecu...

Conclusions: During active infection, microRNA expression in SF reflected an immune response associated with bacterial killing, whereas in post‐infectious LA, microRNA expression in SF and synovial tissue reflected chronic inflammation, synovial proliferation, and breakdown of wound repair processes, showing that the nature of the arthritis was altered after spirochetal killing. ConclusionSystemic autoimmune joint diseases (i.e., RA, PsA, SpA) may follow Lyme disease. Development of polyarthritis after antibiotic‐treated EM, previous psoriasis, or low‐titer B burgdorferi antibodies may provide insight into the correct diagnosis.

Growing up a musically-obsessed child in the 80's, Daryl Hall was one of my biggest inspirations. A masterful, inventive songwriter with an ocean of soul, he set me on the path to being an artist, to never waste a word, and to sing because I mean it. With six number ones and five additional top ten hits throughout the 70's and 80's Daryl Hall and John Oates are the number one duo in music history. Still at the top of his game at 69 years old, Daryl has won legions of new fans with his hit MTV Live show Live From Daryl's House. In February of 2015, at my very sickest from chronic Lyme and Bartonella, after it was missed b...

CONCLUSIONS: Clinical diagnosis of PNGD is difficult, and is based mainly on the histopathological picture. Systemic therapy is incorporated mainly due to the systemic disease. The patient requires further observation in the direction of associated systemic disorders. PMID: 27294654 [PubMed - in process]

Today, the Boston Globe editorial board spoke out against a bill "that would require insurers in Massachusetts to cover Lyme disease treatments for as long as a doctor says they're needed." The Globe writes: Lawmakers may have good intentions, but they don't possess the expertise to decide whether it's beneficial, cost-efficient, or safe, to keep using strong medicines to treat a condition the medical establishment doubts is real. Such questions should be resolved by a consensus of doctors and researchers -- and buttressed by convincing clinical date [sic] -- not determined by legislative mandate. Who among the B...
