CONCLUSION: This study describes the current status of acute stroke care in Korea. Despite quite acceptable quality of stroke care, it suggests regional and hospital disparities. Expansion of stroke units, stroke center certification or accreditation, and connections between stroke centers and emergency medical services are highly recommended. Authors: Hahn RA Abstract The goal of this study was to analyze trends in black age-adjusted mortality rates (AADR) from 1900 through 2010 and to propose explanations. Analyses included a descriptive study of trends in AADR from major causes for blacks and age-specific all-cause mortality at each decade. In 1900, all-cause AADRs were higher for blacks than whites. Abstract Acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) have been implicated in many physiological and patho-physiological processes like synaptic plasticity, inflammation, pain perception, stroke-induced brain damage and, drug-seeking behaviour. Although ASICs have been shown to be modulated by gasotransmitters like nitric oxide (NO), their regulation by hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is not known.
