IN THE United States, lung ultrasound is being used increasingly in intensive care units (ICUs) for both surgical and medical patients. Moreover, we are seeing a trend toward the use of bedside ultrasound to reduce reliance on diagnostic techniques that require radiation and/or intra-hospital transport of patients. However, the utility of ultrasound in pediatric cardiac surgery has not been established, and its adoption by intensivists is far from uniform. In this context, the work by Cantinotti et al.

CONCLUSION: This study shows that although this US course curriculum has positively enhanced the trainees' theoretical knowledge of US practice, it does not enhance the practical application of that theoretical knowledge. To improve this curriculum, a supervised clinically practical training should follow the course. PMID: 32055882 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
