Clove oil tested for weed control in organic Vidalia sweet onion

(American Society for Horticultural Science) A study evaluated combinations of sprayer output volumes and herbicide adjuvants used with clove oil for cool-season weed control in organic Vidalia sweet onion. Weed control was not consistently improved by applying clove oil with sprayers calibrated at either 50 gallons/acre or 25 gallons/ acre, and infrequent improvements in weed control did not affect onion yield. The analyses showed that clove oil does not provide suitable levels of weed control to justify the expense.
