Cerebral Meningioma in an African Pygmy Hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris)

A 3.5-year-old, spayed female, African pygmy hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris) presented with neurologic signs. The tentative clinical diagnosis was wobbly hedgehog syndrome. After 3 months, the patient exhibited the following clinical disease signs, anorexia, weight loss, horizontal nystagmus, exophthalmos, and seizures. The patient's clinical condition gradually became more severe over the next 6 months, without response to any treatment, and subsequently died. Necropsy revealed no gross abnormalities of any internal organs other than the brain.
