A multidisciplinary joint-team efforts deployed for a cholera outbreak response post-hurricane Matthew in southern Haiti, October 2016
Background: On October 20, 2010 the first cholera outbreak was reported in Haiti and is the largest cholera outbreak documented in a single country. On October 4, 2016, the country was struck by Hurricane Matthew causing significant infrastructure damages across the Grande-Anse and Sud Departments. A pressing concern was the possibility of a cholera outbreak in the affected regions. Therefore the Haitian Ministry of Health (MSPP) placed a priority on restoring the reporting mechanism for disease surveillance and activating a post-hurricane response system.
