Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) osteoarthritis in two infants

Background: Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG)vaccination is included in the National Regular Schedule(NRS) of Argentina, for newborns immunization. It was launched as part of the NRS to reduce the haematogenous spread of tuberculosis (TB) infections and the development of severe types of TB. BCG-induced systemic infection such as osteoarthritis is an uncommon complication (0.2-2/million dose). Nevertheless, it can occur within the first 6-months post-vaccination even beyond 12-month affecting any bone, usually at a single site, on the metaphysis of long tubular bones.
