Soluble Rabies Virus Glycoprotein expressed in Drosophila melanogaster S2 as a candidate for recombinant veterinary vaccine

Background: Rabies is a zoonotic viral disease endemic in many countries, with sporadic epidemics. It is classified as a neglected tropical disease even though more than three billion people live in regions where rabies occurs. The virus is transmitted to humans mainly by rabid dogs, therefore mass vaccination of dogs is the mainstay of successful canine rabies control. The rabies virus glycoprotein (RVGP) is the antigen responsible for the induction of neutralizing antibodies protecting it against the viral infection.
