F2-isoprostanes and fatty acids profile in early pregnancy complicated by pre-existing diabetes

Diabetes affects approximately 16 % of all pregnancies worldwide. This includes gestational diabetes (GDM) and also pregnant women with known or previously undiagnosed type 1 or type 2 diabetes [1]. Hyperglycemia in pregnancy is associated with serious complications for both mother and child such as an increased incidence of preeclampsia, caesarean section, premature delivery, macrosomia, shoulder dystocia, fetal malformations, fetal loss, as well as neonatal and maternal mortality [1]. An estimated 55% global increase in cases of diabetes in pregnancy by 2035 is anticipated [2].
