The Added Value of Qualitative Methodologies for Studying Emotional Disclosure About Pain

We thank Professor Cano and Professor Goubert for their excellent article regarding emotional disclosure of pain-related distress1 and agree that there are clear advantages to better integrating this form of emotional expression within both theoretical and clinical paradigms. One area that was surprisingly undeveloped, however, was the role for qualitative methodologies. We believe that qualitative methodologies offer direct added value for several aspects of the proposed research agenda.
