Robotic surgery or enhanced recovery programs or both? And in which order?

The last few decades have seen 2 major innovations in our surgical practice. One is both technical and organizational —enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS)1; the other is technological—robotic surgery.2 These 2 innovations, each in their own way, were designed to mitigate surgical aggression and improve postoperative outcomes: robotic surgery by its minimal invasiveness and ERAS by medical and surgical periop erative measures. Rather than opting for either one or the other, it might be more judicious to use them synergistically.
