Paired Editorial to Accompany: Diagnostic value of Computed Tomography for detecting anastomotic or staple line leakage after bariatric surgery.

The current study herein presents a cohort of 66 patients with suspected anastomotic or staple line leakage (ASLL) after bariatric surgery that underwent abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans as part of their diagnostic workup. These 66 patients were a subset of a larger group of 121 patients suspected of ASLL. The remainder of the patients underwent another form of workup including diagnostic laparoscopy, upper GI series, and abdominal ultrasound. With a negative predictive value of 95-97% among the 66 patients undergoing CT scan for suspected ASLL, the authors conclude that a negative CT can be trusted to rule out ASLL when suspicion is low.
