Ellis Medicine decides no merger or affiliations

Ellis Medicine, the Albany region's third-largest hospital system, will remain independent after the board decided against affiliating or merging with other health care organizations. The Schenectady hospital system, which has 438 beds and more than 3,500 employees, announced Thursday that it will retain local control after the Ellis board spent two years reviewing proposals from inside and outside the region.
