Several reports have described outbreaks of toxoplasmosis in squirrel monkeys. Here, we report the death of four squirrel monkeys in a captive colony from acute toxoplasmosis, one of which developed toxoplasmosis about 1 year after the initial outbreak. Serum anti–T. gondii antibody ...

In order to investigate the potential roles of IL15 and IL15Rα in dojo loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus), we firstly cloned the cDNA sequence of Ma-IL15 and Ma-IL15Rα, which contain 1096bp and 1236bp and code proteins of 193 amino acids and 210 amino acids, ...

This study was a survey seeking parasites infecting cultured freshwater atyid shrimps at aquarium stores in Tainan, Taiwan. We observed that atyid shrimps were infested with Vorticella and Scutariella. Scutariella is a common shrimp parasite; thus, we focused on Vorticella infection in the atyid shrimps. Vorticella aequilata-like pop TW, a freshwater peritrich ciliate, was isolated from the atyid shrimps. The morphological characteristics were investigated using live observations. Specimens from the population showed identical arrangement of the infraciliature and identical ITS1-5.8SITS2 region sequences. The zooids are be...

Hypoglycemia is a recognized feature of severe malaria and linked with a high risk of mortality for children. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the protective effect of T. crispa stem extract on hypoglycemia induced by P. berghei infection tested with a mouse model. ICR mice were inoculated with 1...
