Effective deep brain stimulation of intractable tinnitus: A case study
Tinnitus, the hearing of sound when no external sound is present, may cause severe distress and impair quality of life in 0.5-3% of the adult population [1]. Chronic severe tinnitus is often accompanied by severe insomnia, anxiety and depression, eventually resulting in suicide and requests for euthanasia [2]. For these patients, few treatment options are currently available and 20% remains affected despite treatment [1].
