SMOKERS are at much greater risk of suffering from an irregular heartbeat that can trigger a stroke, warns new research. The study shows that each cigarette smoked increases the risk of atrial fibrillation, a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate and affects one million Britons.
