Authors: Wang S, Miao Z, Yang Q, Wang Y, Zhang J Abstract Colon cancer is still one of the most common causes of cancer in human and is characterized by lymphocyte infiltrates and originates from the epithelial cells found in the lining of colon or rectum of the gastrointestinal tract. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are composed of the multipotent stem cell group of stroma and can be differentiated as various cell lineages, such as fibroblasts, osteoblasts, and adipocytes. MSCs provide mechanical and structural support and have potential functions during tumor growth and metastasis. The efficacy of MSC-based therapi...

In this report, we explore the value of the rate of short-term changes in MELD-Na as an independent predictor of mortality in patients with nonmetastatic HCC. Methods: We reviewed a cohort of patients diagnosed with nonmetastatic HCC at our institution between 2001 and 2011. We evaluated potential predictors of overall survival, including baseline MELD-Na and the change in MELD-Na over 90 days. We explored survival times of cohorts grouped by baseline MELD-Na and the change in MELD-Na. Results: 182 patients met eligibility criteria. With a median follow-up of 21 months for surviving patients, 110 deaths were observ...

Owing to the advantages of a laparoscopic approach, laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is thought to be the treatment of choice in gallbladder disease, even in cases of suspected malignancy. However, it is difficult to differentiate between cholecystitis and gallbladder carcinoma (GBC). We performed radical hepatectomy in patients with pT2 GBC diagnosed by full-thickness frozen biopsy. A 75-year-old Japanese man presented to our hospital with discomfort in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen. This patient was diagnosed with suspected GBC and was scheduled to undergo LC and intraoperative histological examination. Follow...

Conclusions: The ptWBS diagnostic role was clinically relevant for the therapeutic strategies of our patients only in 1.1% of the cases. The cost-effectiveness of performing RRA and ptWBS in all LR and IR patients to find 1 –2% of the cases with distant metastases remains controversial.Eur Thyroid J
