CONCLUSIONS: MiR-124 down-regulation was associated with renal cancer cell OS-RC-2 invasion enhancement. Over-expression of miR-124 attenuated OS-RC-2 cell invasion by down-regulating STAT3 and MMP-9. PMID: 30338828 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Kyritsi F, Loffredo CA, Zheng YL, Philips G, Amr S Abstract We investigated gender differences in the histopathologic presentation of bladder cancer cases in Egypt, where both urothelial cell carcinoma (UC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) types are highly prevalent. We used logistic regression to estimate the unadjusted (OR) and adjusted odds ratio (AOR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of the associations between gender and different histopathologic and sociodemographic parameters of 2,186 confirmed cases of primary bladder cancer (1,775 males and 411 females; 784 SCC and 1,402 UC). There were no statis...

This study aimed to investigate the expression of cyclin D1 and hnRNP-K in relation to the pathological findings in bladder cancer including the type, grade, muscle invasion and bilharzial association. Methods: We studied the immunoexpression; as regard the percentage, intensity and score of both cyclin D1 and hnRNP-K in different bladder lesions including 10 cases of cystitis; 10 cases of carcinoma insitu (CIS), 20 cases of Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and 66 cases of urothelial carcinoma (UC). Results: High expression of cyclin D1 was found in UC compared to other groups (p

AbstractA case of cystitis occurring after administration of nivolumab, an anti-programmed death-1 antibody, which was considered to be an immune-related adverse event, is reported. A 62-year-old man with pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma (T4N0M1a Stage IV) was being treated with nivolumab as fourth-line chemotherapy. He was hospitalized for a fever and diarrhea after 3 courses. Fasting and antibiotic medication reduced the fever and alleviated the diarrhea. He then developed cystitis with no evidence of infection. Cystoscopy showed diffused redness and erosion of the bladder mucosa; urine cytology was negative. Imaging ex...

Conclusion:EGFR and TGF α could be used as prognostic predictors in early stage and grade of bladder cancer cases, especially those with schistosomal association. In addition they can help in selecting patients who can get benefit from anti-EGFR molecular targeted therapy.Curr Urol 2015;9:192-201

Uterine cervical carcinoma secondarily involving the genitourinary tract is rarely documented histologically. These tumors present a unique diagnostic challenge as they can appear morphologically similar to urothelial carcinoma as well as primary squamous cell carcinoma and primary adenocarcinoma of the bladder. Genitourinary consult cases at the Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1984 to the present were searched for cases in which the differential diagnosis was primary bladder carcinoma versus secondary involvement by cervical carcinoma. We identified 10 cases that met these criteria and evaluated them by immunohistochemistry f...

The objective of this study was to compare the effect of combined external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) and Californium (Cf)-252 neutron intracavity brachytherapy (ICBT) on cervical squamous versus adenocarcinoma. A total of 106 patients with stage IB–IIIB cervical cancer were accrued between January 2005 and May 2011 and divided into squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (AC) as a pair with 53 patients in each group according to tumor size, stage, age, and hemoglobin level using matched-pair design. The whole pelvic EBRT was performed with 2 Gy/fraction, 4 fractions/week. The total dose was 48–54&n...

Conclusion High-stage and -grade bladder malignancies expressed HER2 much more than did benign lesions. FISH is more sensitive for detecting HER2 expression. The treatment of HER2-positive tumours might benefit from novel targeted-treatment protocols.
