Association of IL-23R gene single nucleotide polymorphism; rs 11209026 with incidence and severity of ankylosing spondylitis in a cohort of Egyptian patients

Conclusions:In Egyptians, IL-23R single nucleotide polymorphism (rs11209026) appears to be associated with ankylosing spondylitis occurrence not severity, while higher levels of IL-23 might be associated with disease severity.

Authors: Du W, Yin L, Tong P, Chen J, Zhong Y, Huang J, Duan S Abstract Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a type of rheumatic inflammatory disease. miRNAs participate in the process of regulating inflammatory response and bone differentiation. Herein, we aimed to test the effect of miR-495 on AS. The serum and tissues were obtained from traumatic fracture (health) and AS patients. The human fibroblast-like synovial (HFLS) cells were extracted from AS tissues. The contents of inflammatory factors and dishevelled 2 (DVL-2) were examined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The ossification factors were detec...

This study aimed to compare serum vitamin D levels in Spondyloarthritis (SpA) patients and control group and to evaluate the associations between vitamin D and disease activity in SpA patients. METHODOLOGY: In this study, 86 SpA patients according to the International Criteria and 117 age and sex-matched healthy controls were included. In patients, clinical examination was performed and Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) and Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) were recorded. Serum 25(OH)D3 concentration was measured using ELISA kit. RESULTS: Serum 25(OH)D3 levels in SpA p...

ConclusionThe costs per responder associated with ASAS 20 and 40 response rates were consistently lower for secukinumab compared with adalimumab. The treatment with secukinumab for patients with AS could be a cost ‐saving treatment option in South Korea.

AbstractAimIn India, many centers use infliximab at lower doses of 3 ‐5 mg/kg without the loading dose for spondyloarthritis (SpA) patients. It is then continued on an as‐required basis, rather than a fixed schedule. Our study was undertaken to see if the trough drug levels and anti‐drug antibodies in patients with SpA treated with as‐needed infliximab dosin g correlated with the disease activity measures.MethodsThirty ‐five adult SpA patients in the age group 18‐70 years were recruited. They had received three or more infusions of infliximab at 3‐5 mg/kg over the past 6 to 12 months. Pati...

to VS Abstract Immunosuppressive treatments for rheumatic diseases present special problems in areas endemic for chronic infectious diseases because of the possibility of reactivation. Leishmaniasis is a significant neglected tropical disease caused by different species of protozoan parasites within the genus Leishmania. Amastigotes live as intracellular parasites in a variety of mammalian cells, most notably within phagocytes such as macrophages, and residual parasites can persist even after treatment and healing of the lesions. We herein report a case of relapsing mucosal leishmaniasis after aggressive immunothe...
