Ferulic Acid – An Insight Into Its Current Research and Future Prospects

PanchalAbstractFerulic acid (FA) is an ubiquitous phenolic plant constituent that exhibits a wide range of therapeutic effects against cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, on account of its potent antioxidant capacity. The present review summarizes the most recent literature on FA including our current knowledge of its pharmacological actions, pre-clinical and clinical studies, reported mechanisms of actions and pharmacokinetic profile. Simultaneously, the latest research updates as well as avenues for further research are also elucidated pertaining to the positive effects of this widespread phenolic compound for a better understanding of its potential applications in health and disease that may subsequently help in the development and design of suitable dietary recommendations.
