Urgent and delayed management of genitourinary trauma at CHU Souro Sanon de Bobo-Dioulasso.AbstractObjectiveTo analyze management of genitourinary trauma.Patients and methodsThe current study is a retrospective review done in the urology department of the University Hospital of Bobo-Dioulasso. All cases of urogenital trauma were included. Operative reports were used to collect data on the modalities of patients’ management.ResultsSixty patients were admitted for genitourinary trauma. The management was non operative for 21 patients (35%) and 39 patients were treated operatively (65%). Non-operative treatment included observation with surveillance and symptomatic management. Surgical treatment was performed in 37 patients in emergency and delayed surgery in 17 patients. It included suprapubic cystostomy (n=20, 54%), debridement and suture (n=9, 24.32%), bladder repair (n=3, 8.10%), ureter repair (n=2, 5.4%), one bilateral ureterostomy and one nephrectomy. Delayed surgery consisted to 10 urethroplasties, 3 endoscopic internal urethrotomies, urethral dilations and 2 ureterovesical reimplantations. Bone lesions were treated by osteosynthes...

We report a 54-year-old man who presented with a 1-month history of an enlarged skin mass on the right flank. Diagnoses: The patient was subsequently diagnosed with metastatic SCC involving the patient's integumentary system near the flank region proximal to the right kidney following percutaneous nephrostomy. Interventions: The skin mass and the surrounding muscle tissue of the right flank were excised with a wide resection margin including radial nephrectomy. The soft tissue defect after resection was reconstructed using a unilateral gluteus maximus myocutaneous V-Y advancement flap. Outcomes: No recurrence of t...

CONCLUSIONS: Semirigid ureterorenoscopy enables the elimination of ureteral lithiasis on a major ambulatory surgery regimen with an acceptable complication rate and a low rate of ancillary measures. Flexible ureteroscopy has resolved intrarenal lithiasis of up to 2 cm, being a substitute for percutaneous nephrolithotomy for these cases. PMID: 28221147 [PubMed - in process]

This study highlighted some cases of life-threatening complications after semirigid ureteroscopy (s-URS) or flexible ureteroscopy (f-URS). We enrolled experienced endourologists (more than 75 cases/year in the last 3 years) and we performed a survey asking to review their series and report the cases encumbered by major complications (Clavien-Dindo IIIb-IV grade). Eleven urologists reported on 12 major complications (4 after s-URS, 8 after f-URS). Eight patients developed a kidney injury, 1 an arteriovenous fistula, 2 a ureter avulsion and 1 acute sepsis. Six patients underwent open nephrectomy, two surgical repair, one ope...
