Le carcinome tubulo-mucineux et fusiforme du rein : A propos de deux cas cliniques et une revue de littérature

We report two clinical cases in two patients, respectively 39 and 70 years old. The clinical picture is identical in the two patients represented by left low back pain. At abdominal CT, a tumor process that is slightly enhanced after injection of the contrast agent. Treatment consisted of total tumor excision, the pathologic examination of which showed a tubulo-mucinous and fusiform carcinoma of the low-grade Fuhrman malignant kidney. The evolution was favorable in both patients with a follow-up of 5 years and 2 months in the first and second 9 months. Through this observation we report this rare entity whose recognition is crucial for clinicians and pathologists given its prognosis which is entirely favorable.

CONCLUSION: Survival across the two time periods remained stable for oral SCC but showed a significant increase for oropharyngeal SCC, possibly because of improvements in the patients ’ response to radiotherapy, such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy, and the use of more accurate diagnostic imaging approaches.

ABSTRACT Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. The Brazilian Society of Hepatology (SBH) published in 2015 its first recommendations about the management of HCC. Since then, new data have emerged in the literature, prompting the governing board of SBH to sponsor a single-topic meeting in August 2018 in S ão Paulo. All the invited experts were asked to make a systematic review of the literature reviewing the management of HCC in subjects with cirrhosis. After the meeting, all panelists gathered together for the discussion of the topics and the elaboration o...

Goals: The main purpose of this study was to assess the recent trends in mortality and health care utilization of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among Medicare population in the United States. Background: The incidence of HCC is increasing in the United States. Materials and Methods: Data were obtained for a sample of Medicare beneficiary from 2005 to 2014. Diagnosis of HCC and etiology of liver disease were based on ICD-9 codes. Temporal trends in HCC rates, clinical, demographical and utilization parameters were analyzed by joinpoint regression model. Results: Study cohort included 13,648 Medicare recipients w...

BACKGROUND: There is limited evidence on the long-term efficacy of transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization compared with hemorrhoidectomy. Most studies investigated short-term effects with postoperative pain as the primary outcome. Being a benign disease, the long-term goal of treatment for hemorrhoids is the resolution of symptoms and improvement of quality of life. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of minimal open hemorrhoidectomy versus transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization on patient-reported symptoms. DESIGN: This was an open-label randomized controlled trial. SETTINGS: This...

Immunotherapy has exhibited promising but controversial results in gastric cancer; determining criteria for choosing the appropriate target population is still problematic. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated gastric carcinoma (EBVaGC) exhibits distinctive genomic aberrations and clinicopathologic features, the positive status of EBV is a potential biomarker. We prospectively recruited 9 patients who were diagnosed with stage-IV EBVaGC, and all of the patients were treated by immune-checkpoint inhibitors. The median age of the patients was 62 years old. The clinicopathologic characteristics demonstrated a male predominance...

Authors: Tomeu AJ, Salguero AG Abstract In the field of computational biology, in order to simulate multiscale biological systems, the Cellular Potts Model (CPM) has been used, which determines the actions that simulated cells can perform by determining a hamiltonian of energy that takes into account the influence that neighboring cells exert, under a wide range of parameters. There are some proposals in the literature that parallelize the CPM; in all cases, either lock-based techniques or other techniques that require large amounts of information to be disseminated among parallel tasks are used to preserve data co...
