SummaryAimTo test the hypothesis that the finishers of the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 editions wore more the elastic compression (EC) than the participants who stopped the race.SynthesisThe first goal was to determine if the participants finished or stopped prematurely the race thanks to the final ranking. Then the aim was to verify from the website http://www.maindruphoto.com/ if the participants wore or not the EC. Only the calf sleeves and the knee socks were considered in this study. 9828 subjects were included in this study.ConclusionThe Chi-square test indicates that the EC was more used (P < 0.05) by the finishers of the UTMB (52.9 %) than by the participants who stopped prematurely the race (46.2 %). Moreover the percentage of trailers wearing the EC increases linearly until the top 400 (r = 0.61; P < 0.05) and decreases in the top of the ranking.
