SummaryNewsBariatric surgery has taken a large place in the modern treatment of obesity but its long-term effectiveness is compromised in 20–30% of cases by weight regain. Physical activity could be a preventive and/or curative strategy for these secondary failures. We present a general review of physical activity studies after bariatric surgery. For this purpose, we selected 11 articles that studied the effect of a postoperative physical activity protocol. Globally, physical activity has positive effects on the cardiovascular system, maintenance of functional and muscular capacity, insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism. The effects on weight are somewhat discordant but the protocols carried out after the initial phase of rapid weight loss and for a sufficient length of time find more weight loss than that induced bariatric surgery alone. This effect reinforcing that of surgery on weight loss is observed with low intensity endurance activity and especially exercise training targeted at the LIPOXmax, while is not clearly evidenced with protocols using higher intensity endurance or resistance training.Conclusionin summary, all the articles...
