Ensuring model validity in a feasibility study of acupuncture to improve quality of life in cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment

ConclusionsFew clinical trials of acupuncture, and complementary medicine interventions generally, document details of the process by which they ensured the model validity of their trial intervention. It is recommended that researchers in acupuncture, and other forms of complementary medicine, adopt appropriate methodological approaches to ensure model validity.

Tens of millions of Americans struggle to sleep at night, and many of them turn to sleeping pills for relief. Prescription and over-the-counter sleep aids are especially popular among older adults. A recent study published in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry found that roughly one in three adults ages 65 to 80 use these drugs at least occasionally to fall asleep, and OTC meds like Benadryl and Tylenol PM are the pills of choice for sleepless seniors. Experts say this is concerning for a number of reasons. Studies have linked the regular, long-term use of OTC sleep medicines to some potentially serious side effe...

The story began a year ago, as did my divorce, but I will try my best to explain my relationship with Blake Chadick, as it was a major impact on me this past year, waiting for my divorce to be finalized.  I realize my blog is reading backwards at the moment, but should only be several entries or so.First of all, he's married.  He said his wife Melissa was very sick from the radiation treatment she received when she had colon (among other) cancers in 2011.  She slept half of the day, was in the the bathroom for the other half, and had a medication the constipated her for about 2 hours a day so she could be ac...

Conclusions: Patients who completed this interdisciplinary palliative consult service appeared to experience a reduction in their most severe symptoms. Visits to patients during existing appointments or having them attend a half-day clinic appears to have reached those referred. With interdisciplinary integration, clinicians are able to collaborate to address patient care needs. Considerations include how to further integrate palliative and psychosocial care to achieve additional benefits and ongoing monitoring of changes in symptom burden. CONCLUSION: Monitoring for abnormal physical and psychosocial issues after cancer treatment is essential to maintain or improve psychosocial well-being during survivorship. When developing survivorship care plans for patients residing in regional centres, health professionals should consider availability of high-quality and accessible support services in regional areas of Australia.
