Ensuring model validity in a feasibility study of acupuncture to improve quality of life in cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment

ConclusionsFew clinical trials of acupuncture, and complementary medicine interventions generally, document details of the process by which they ensured the model validity of their trial intervention. It is recommended that researchers in acupuncture, and other forms of complementary medicine, adopt appropriate methodological approaches to ensure model validity.

Conclusions: Patients who completed this interdisciplinary palliative consult service appeared to experience a reduction in their most severe symptoms. Visits to patients during existing appointments or having them attend a half-day clinic appears to have reached those referred. With interdisciplinary integration, clinicians are able to collaborate to address patient care needs. Considerations include how to further integrate palliative and psychosocial care to achieve additional benefits and ongoing monitoring of changes in symptom burden. Abstract Severe fatigue occurs in one in four breast cancer survivors (BCS). Quality of life (QOL) and psychological factors are important in fatigue-oriented interventions for BCS, but an up-to-date overview is lacking. The aims of this review were to (i) provide a comprehensive overview of the relationship of fatigue with QOL and factors that can be addressed in psychological interventions for fatigue in BCS and (ii) determine the strength of evidence for these relationships. A systematic literature search was conducted to find studies on fatigue in BCS who had completed curative breast cancer treatment. Fatigue...
