Group B (20 patients): device was MED-EL.Cochlear length (CL) and cochlear height (CH) were measured pre-operatively by 128-multidetector CT. Electrode length (EL) and insertion, depth angle (α) were measured post-operatively by MDCT.ResultsGroup A: mean CL was 9.1 mm ± 0.4 SD; mean CH was 4.1 ± 0.3 SD; mean EL was 18 ± 2.7 SD; mean α angle was 299.05 ± 37 SD. Significant, statistical correlation (P

We report the case of a patient referred to us after multiple unsuccessful paranasal sinus operations who presented with enophthalmos and a resultant migratory keratitis with a suspected diagnosis of silent sinus syndrome. Preservation of the orbit was no longer feasible. After five years without a definitive diagnosis, we ascertained that this was a case of IgG4-related disease. DISCUSSION: IgG4-related disease represents an important element in the differential diagnosis of chronic advanced diseases of the orbit and paranasal sinuses. The diagnosis should be considered in the case of unclear ...

AbstractGambling is a popular activity among older adults. Despite this increase in popularity little research has examined gambling among this group. This is especially true for minority older adults, like Francophones in Ontario. The purpose of this study was to better understand gambling in a sample of older Francophones from North-Eastern Ontario, the first study to do so. A sample of 181 older (over 55  years) Francophones from Northeastern Ontario (M age = 68.7, SD 7.6) was recruited. This sample was compared to a sample of older adults with English as their native language that had been previously...

This study, therefore, examined the influence of gender, age, sports betting knowledge and peer-based gambling on attitudes toward sports betting among young adults in Nigeria. The ex-post facto design was adopted in this cross-sectional survey. The participants were 749 students (42.9% females) of a large tertiary institution in southwest Nigeria. A standardized questionnaire comprising demographics and measures of attitudes toward sports betting, sports betting knowledge and perception of peer gambling behavior was utilized in the study. Results revealed that attitudes toward sports betting are positive for older males w...

AbstractInternet gambling has been widely legalised in recognition of its capacity to, and the importance of, providing consumer protection tools to prevent and minimise gambling-related harms. Most licensed Internet gambling sites are required to provide consumer protection tools, including activity statements, deposit limits, and time-outs (temporary self-exclusion). However, few Internet gambling customers engage with the tools. An online survey of 564 customers of Australian Internet gambling sites aimed to understand the extent to which consumer protection tools are used, characteristics of those using these tools, an...

CONCLUSIONS: These findings support the use of patient experiences and feedback to aide product development. In addition, post-9/11 veterans support the use of eScreening to assist health screening. However, evaluating the eScreening program in more diverse veteran groups and Veterans Affairs settings is needed to improve the generalizability of these findings to the larger veteran population. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, studies reported largely positive outcomes for veterans undergoing remote access therapy and in general participants did not find the therapeutic process compromised by remote delivery. Studies showed that remote access therapy is being conducted successfully in both the US and UK. There is, however, a need for more research into the use of remote access therapies to treat a wider range of psychological difficulties in veterans.
