CONCLUSIONS: Proteomic biomarkers in participants with cognitive impairment suggest roles for insulin, and vascular signaling pathways, some of which are similar to findings in Alzheimer's disease. This study identifies the SMN as a cross-network between rLLD- and aMCI-vulnerable networks. The common susceptibility of these diseases to AD is likely due to the breakdown of the cross-network. In conclusion, insular sub-regional atrophy, particularly the anterior dorsal region, may contribute to cognitive and neuropsychiatric deficits in neurodegeneration.
