Proteomic biomarkers of cognitive impairment in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

CONCLUSIONS: Proteomic biomarkers in participants with cognitive impairment suggest roles for insulin, and vascular signaling pathways, some of which are similar to findings in Alzheimer's disease. A better understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms of CI in OSAS will help focus clinical trials needed in this patient population. PMID: 29968150 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractPurposeSleep problems are very common in people with diabetes. The aim of this study was to assess the association of the combination of self-reported sleep duration and sleep quality on quality of life (QOL) in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).MethodsWe analyzed the community-based cross-sectional data of 798 patients with T2DM in Xiamen, China, in 2016. Sleep duration was measured as self-reported average sleep time during the previous month. Sleep quality was evaluated as self-rated reports. QOL was assessed by the Diabetes-specific Quality of Life (DSQL), with scores

DISCUSSION: The forms of tau in CSF and plasma are distinct, but in each specimen type, the levels of certain fragments are increased in AD. Measurement of plasma NT1 tau should be aggressively pursued as a potential blood-based screening test for AD/AD-MCI. PMID: 30419228 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Objective The conventional nocturnal blood pressure monitoring (NBPM) systems can disturb sleep and lead to false measurements. The present study compared the validity and acceptability of a newly developed wrist-cuff system with that of the conventional upper arm-cuff system for NBPM. Participants and methods Home blood pressure (BP) and pulse rate (PR) were measured in hypertensive patients (n=57) every 30 min at night using a wrist-cuff system and at 2 am (fixed time) and 4 h after going to bed (flexible time) using an upper arm-cuff system. The nocturnal BPs with the wrist-cuff system at 2&thi...

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of ribosomal protein (RP) S6-pS240 in non-special type invasive breast cancer in relation to other prognostic markers and gain new insights to facilitate more individualized treatment. Methods: The following clinical and histopathological parameters of 120 patients were determined: S6-pS240 expression, age, menopausal status, tumor size and grade, TNM stage, Nottingham Prognostic Index (NPI), lymph node stage, estrogen and progesterone receptor (ER/PR) expression, HER2/neu amplification, lymphovascular invasion, and proliferative index a...

In the present study, we aimed to assess if an intravenous administration of the anti-IL-6 receptor tocilizumab may yield a rapid improvem...
