Long-term effect of bariatric surgery on resolution of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH): An external validation and application of a clinical NASH score

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by abnormal fat accumulation in liver cells and is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide [1,2]. It is closely associated with obesity and is one of the important etiologies of hepatocellular carcinoma and liver failure [3]. The development process of NAFLD can start from simple steatosis (NAFLD), become nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and finally lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in the absence of excessive alcohol intake [3,4].
