Assessing Caregiver Burden and Relationship between Caregiver Burden and Basic Activities of Daily Living in Stroke Patients with Spasticity.
Assessing Caregiver Burden and Relationship between Caregiver Burden and Basic Activities of Daily Living in Stroke Patients with Spasticity. J Med Assoc Thai. 2016 Aug;99(8):926-32 Authors: Khanittanuphong P, Leelasamran W Abstract Objective: To evaluate caregiver burden of stroke patients with spasticity and to study the relationship between the caregiver burden and the ability to perform basic activities of daily living (bADL) of these patients. Material and Method: The study design was a cross-sectional descriptive research. The demographic data of 52 stroke patients with spasticity and their caregivers at Songklanagarind Hospital in Thailand were recorded. The Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) in the Thai version measured the caregiver burdens. The modified Barthel Index (BI) evaluated the bADL of the patients. The correlation between the ZBI and modified BI were calculated by The Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient (rs) with p
ConclusionsSerum soluble LOX-1 appears to have the potential to become a promising prognostic predictor after human aneurysmal SAH.
Abstract Strokes causing similar lesions and clinical states can be followed by diverse regains of neurological functions, indicating that the clinical recovery can depend on individual modulating factors. A promising line to disclose these factors, to finally open new therapeutic strategies, is to search for individual indices of recovery prognosis. Here, we pursued on strengthening the value of acute phase electrophysiological biomarkers for poststroke functional recovery in a wide group of patients. We enrolled 120 patients affected by a monohemispheric stroke within the middle cerebral artery territory (70 lef...
Conclusions: Adopting a pharmacist-involved team-based hypertension model could substantially improve BP control and cardiovascular outcomes in the United States. Net cost-savings among groups 2 and 3 make a compelling case for Medicare, but favorable economics may also be possible for private insurers, particularly if innovations could moderately lower the cost of delivering an effective intervention.
CONCLUSION: Mortality in CS patients due to decompensated severe AS is high, regardless of interventional treatment strategy. Both eBAV and eTAVR seem feasible. As eTAVR is associated with better initial improvements in hemodynamics and simultaneously avoids sequential interventions, it might be favorable to eBAV in select patients. If eTAVR is not available, eBAV might serve as a "bridge" to elective TAVR. PMID: 31611428 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Healthy Diets for a Zero Hunger World”. This theme is timely, especially, because across Africa and around the world, there has been a gradual rise in malnutrition and diet-related non communicable diseases, as highlighted in The Lancet study and a United Nations Report published earlier this year. While 45 percent of deaths in children are from nu...
Conclusion: By influencing a certain patient population throughout the organization, population-focused CNSs are in a unique role to lead an interprofessional team or serve as an expert consultant in pursuing DSC certification from The Joint Commission.
Conclusions: Implementation of an adapted aspiration risk assessment screening tool to document risk of hospital-acquired aspiration pneumonia and aspiration precautions protocol was associated with a decrease in aspiration pneumonia rates.
CONCLUSION: In patients with isolated LMI, we postulate that disruption of the descending pathway from the pontine micturition centre to the sacral spinal cord at the level of the lateral tegmentum results in urinary retention. PMID: 31607099 [PubMed]
CONCLUSION: Females living with stroke may demonstrate a greater response to exercise on selective attention and conflict resolution compared with males with stroke. These findings suggest that there may be sex-specific effects of exercise on cognitive function in individuals with stroke. PMID: 31608416 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSIONS: Both groups improved in the CAHAI. There was a significant between-group difference in the secondary outcome measure (FMUE) where the bilateral priming group had an average increase of 10 points from pre-intervention to follow up. PMID: 31609714 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
